W. Apolloni

Founded in 1926, W. Apolloni has been in business for three generations and is now directed by Marco Fabio Apolloni, a writer, journalist and art historian trained at the Courtauld Institute in London. During its successful history the gallery has sold many masterpieces to museums in Italy and abroad.
In 2012, he and wife Monica Cardarelli founded Galleria del Laocoonte, presenting works by 20th century Italian artists via exhibitions at their gallery in Rome, fairs across Europe and even in museums.
Galleria del Laocoonte

The gallery takes its name from the large 16th Century marble statue of the Laocoon by Bandinelli’s pupil Vincenzo de’ Rossi (1525-1587). The marble group, found in a French Chateau by the Apolloni family, is exhibited at the centre of the gallery in all its anatomical might and remarkable show of drama and pathos.
The mission of Galleria del Laocoonte is to expand and enrich the public knowledge and diffusion among collectors and museums of the works of Italian artists of the first half of the Novecento, a period of Italian art less known than that of its more distant past and that of its most recent post-war developments.

Luigi Sabatelli. La Sala dell’Iliade di Palazzo Pitti
“Nemo Magistro in Patria”: Luigi Sabatelli (Firenze 1772-Milano 1850), fiorentino spirito bizzarro del neoclassicismo italiano, protoromantico precoce, che fu davvero grandissimo maestro nel disegno e nella pittura a fresco, nonché incisore “apocalittico” e sublime, attende ancora la giusta collocazione che egli merita nella pur studiatissima storia dell’arte italiana dell’Ottocento.

Eugene Berman
Ciò che non si sapeva è che tra sarcofagi di terracotta, maschere funerarie egizie e vasetti aztechi, l’intera opera di Eugene Berman artista, rimasta nelle sue mani fino alla morte, giace nelle segrete dell’antico carcere pontificio di Civita Castellana, mai vista e finora mai fotografata.
